Construction of "The Harken Farms Barn” began in 1935 by Mr. Klinebeck of Murray, Iowa and was completed in 1937. At the time it was built it was of the most modern design and featured a beef barn that could be converted into a 1,000 seat show pavilion in 2-1/2 hours. Top lines of Aberdeen-Angus cattle were developed there. The well maintained English-style show barn still stands as a popular landmark southeast of Osceola, Iowa, and is now owned by Dan and Dianne Oswald. The two gentlemen pictured are Dr. C.R. Harken, cattleman/doctor, on the left and Mr. J.C. Penney on the right. J.C. Penney was a cattleman in the 1940's and 1950's and often came to Osceola to do business with Dr. Harken.
